~NightFalls....
I originally wrote this for this time frame back on Oct. 23, 2001, one month
after 9/11 and the terrorists' attacks on the two towers of the World Trade
Center (WTC) and the Pentagon, Wash., DC.....

NIGHTFALLS

NightFalls upon the land...
Three are taken, two still stand;

The Tigres is restless and Quom seethes with rage...
The educator has grown haughty and the pauper's a Sage;

Reason has turned turtle and dropped from all view...
The many are held captive by the dark hearts of a few;

I gazed from afar the desolation and rain...
That fell from the sky upon what once there had been;

Fallen in a rush, then a roar and the cry...
Til no more was heard, not even a sigh;

The council has gathered and the way forward paved...
In recompense for lost lives that could not have been saved;

An error in wisdom, a lost point of view...
A word failed to be heard but the many are few;

As NightFalls upon the land a new Actor will arise...
Exceedingly strong and terrible, a coveted prize...

Who takes stage upon the matters arrayed all around...
With no silver nor gold but a platinum crown...

The new Actor strikes terror to those whom it will meet...
Arrayed all in crimson and purple to its feet...

Gathering, roiling, rising ever higher...
A shape of man in the form of a pyre...

And NightFalls upon the land as his light breaks forth...
Immense, terrible, horrible...

Irrisistible...

Mushroom-shaped.

Katrina Air Lift...
Bravo Zulu to the US Navy/Marines air crews, and those of the US Air Force,
Army and Coast Guard for some spectacular flying in undertaking "Operation Air
Care" -- the largest air lift in history in the U.S. Something like over
20,000+ civilians air lifted out without any major casualties during the
flights themselves, often at night, in pitch darkness without any visual
lighting or cues through and around all kinds of obstacles (buildings, antenna
towers, guide-wires, etc.). Some real hairy shit man; just wish you guys could have got their sooner!!!

Sixty Years Ago...
Hiroshima was gone....

It finished a War that Imperial Japan had started way back in 1932, including the "Rape of Nanking China" (do a Google search and you will see the horrific facts), not to mention the sneak attacks on Pearl Harbor, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the mid-south Pacific Islands, etc.

Thus began the latter half of the 20th Century.

They started it--we finished it.

In a series of blinding flashes, immemse shock waves and mushroom-shaped clouds.

It's Time....
To bring our troops home from Iraq. Iraq stands or falls by its own people. One can only do so much. Quite frankly, I question their (Iraqi peoples') acceptance of democracy. It just may be that NO Muslim Middle East Country will EVER accept democracy because their state-sponsored religion (Islam) interferes with that. If that is true, than so be it. Leave them in darkness and the 7th Century primitive islamic life-style the Islamic Militants seek to live in. We can't do anything about that in the long run unless we want to wage total war against them. (which, down thru History is the ONLY way massive changes in conflicts have been resolved,)

Nope, just bring our Troops home, put up an "Electronic/Radio-Magnatic Fence" (i.e. Radar, Intel, etc.) and "Barrier" around the whole place and if anything looks like an Islamic Terrorist Camp starting to gel... It gets taken out by a few 2,000 lb JDAM weapons. *thumbs up*

"Roger Ball!" Back in the Groove....
I've been busier than shit -- yesterday (Thurs-Friday) stayed over at Suzette's
and we went out to have a nice breakfast at Polly's (Fri morning) before I had
to serve a subpoena at Hemet Valley Medical Center in a court case I'm working
on. Got that done and then it was on to the La-Z-Boy center to order a home
entertainment set and two chase lounge chairs, plus a couple pieces of BroyHill
furniture, and then we went and saw Fantastic 4 (she
loved it -- to me it was ehhhhh... good, but not surperb).

Came back to to Palm Springs today, humid and hot as shit, but thank gawwwd my
AC was already serviced two weeks ago--running like a champ since it is 117 F here.

There's nothing better than things up and running and coming in on the "Ball."

LEAVE NO ONE BENIND.....
Four US Navy SEAL Team members tracked a Taliban/Al-Qaeda terrorist force in the mountians high (10,000+ ft) up in Afghanistan's Kundar province. The same terrorists directly responsible for launching the attacks on 9/11. The SEALS were ambushed by 100+ terrorists. They requested reinforcements, but, one of the responding helos (a US Army MH-47 Chinook from the 160th Special Ops Group) was shot down killing all 16 aboard.

Subsequently, an all-out-effort was launched to recover the four-man SEAL Team high up in the mountains. One was found alive, two found dead, and one is still missing although his satellite rescue beacon continues to show that he may still be alive.

The search and combat rescue continues. I hope and pray they find him soon.

May God Bless those who have been lost in this operation and their families, loved ones and friends.

This particular operation is NOT about IRAQ--this is an operation against those very same terrorists who launched the attacks on us on 9/11.

I hope and pray that we can rescue and recover the remaining lone SEAL member.

God Bless him... wherever he is.... tonite.

LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND.

Good Nite Good Buddy ;)
Luther Vandross passed away yesterday in NJ,
from complications of a stroke he had in April, 2003.

He was only 54.

One helluva a singer and balladeer.

I just bought last week his "Greatest Hits" 2-cd
compilation and man it is sooooo goooood.

Luther, thank you for bringing your voice into our
lives. I'm so sad and so sorry that you had to
leave us so soon--much too soon, at only 54.

God Bless!!!

Taking Out The Trash
"Gilligan's Island" area of Mosul, Iraq, December 2004. At night, a US Army task force pin-points and designates a group of insurgents with infra-red "spotlights" so that an orbiting US Air Force AC-130 "Spectre" gunship can take them out with its guns.

Night Strike

That's one way to take out the trash.

~A True Sea Story
TINS*

Summer-Fall 1985 and I was on the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63** in the middle of the Indian Ocean, northwest of the central Indian Ocean atoll of Diego Garcia, during the Iraq-Iran "tanker wars." Our job was to mosey around farther north, near the Strait of Hormuz and ensure that it stayed open for oil tankers coming and going to the oil fields in the area.

As was the custom at the time, our Battle Group was continuously shadowed by a (then) Soviet (now Russian) Udaloy Class Missile Frigate. She would generally follow our ships, report on our location to her HQ and go thru our trash we dumped overboard for "intelligence" (we knew this, so, as you can imagine, we "dumped" some pretty amazing things in the trash bags like lingerie, cow pies, all kinds of wierd stuff that we had saved up from stateside).

Trouble is, we didn't like being shadowed though, because 1. it gave away our movements to those whom we didn't want to know where we were and 2. the Udaloy carried a hefty load-out of anti-ship cruise missiles and her first target in any war was to take out the carrier.

Our Admiral and his staff devised a plan to "lose" the Udaloy one day. Close to sundown, we did our customary trash "dump" but this time we threw out something like FOUR times as many bags, and some were in different colors, red, white, etc., instead of the usual green "hefty" bags we used. As planned, the Udaloy took the bait, hove to, launched small boats to look over and recover as much of the "trash" as they could before they sank. In the meantime, the large replenishment ship USS Camden moved in right behind Kitty Hawk as darkness fell, and the Battle Group escorts fell back as a kind of a "buffer" between Camden/Kitty Hawk and the trash-poking Udaloy.

Once darkness fell complete, Kitty Hawk went completely EMCON (emissions control, where EVERY radar, radio, etc. is switched off), our running lights were turned off, and Camden began emitting her radars and radio traffic, and turned on her formation lights, as if she was Kitty Hawk. Having previously recovered our last cycle, with all necessary planes on board, we then bent on 35+ knots (I betchya we were doing 40), and she shook and shuddered like hell as we sped ahead out of the formation, over the horizon, and we went like that for about 7 hours until we reached "Gonzo Station" and joined up with additional ships of our Battle Group, where our operation spot was, in the North Arabian Sea off the Strait of Hormuz (about 300 miles away).

Naturally, when morning broke, the Udaloy was quite startled to see that Kitty Hawk had mysteriously "disappeared." She then radioed the remaining ships of the Battle Group "Where is Kitty Hawk?"

To which the fast thinking Tactical Officer of the Watch in the Frigate USS Knox radioed back "It's a small town in North Carolina."

Bwwwwwhahahahahahah!!! :D

*TINS = Swabbie parlance for "This is NO shit!!!"

Duran Duran
I recently obtained Duran Duran's "Astronauts" cd (having all their other previous), and I just happened to spot yesterday their "Duran Duran Greatest" cd, so, of course I had to grab that too. Just GREAT stuff!!! Now I have ALL of my FAVE Duran Duran goodies in one bag, including my faves "View to a Kill" "Rio" "Ordinary World" "Save a Prayer" AND my ultimate DD Fave "Come Undone"....

"COME UNDONE"

Mine, immaculate dream, made breath and skin, I’ve been waiting for you,
Signed, with a home tattoo, happy birthday to you was created for you.

(can’t ever keep from falling apart.. at the seams)
(can’t I believe you’re taking my heart.. to pieces)

Ahh, it’ll take a little time, might take a little crime to come undone
Now we’ll try to stay blind, to the hope and fear outside,
Hey child, stay wilder than the wind
And blow me in to cry.

Who do you need?
Who do you love?
When you come undone.

(chorus)

Words, playing me deja vu, like a radio tune I swear I’ve heard before,
Chill, is it something real, or the magic I’m feeding off your fingers

(can’t ever keep from falling apart.. at the seams)
(can I believe you’re taking my heart.. to pieces)

Lost, in a snow filled sky, we’ll make it alright, to come undone,
Now we’ll try to stay blind, to the hope and fear outside,
Hey child, stay wilder than the wind -
And blow me in to cry.

(chorus)

Fade...

Please Stay in the World....
I'm not at all sure why I'm writing this... but lately I've been bombarded with either news stories of those who have taken their lives, or contemplated taking their lives, including an interesting article in today's L.A. Times about a guy who once leaped to his death off the Golden Gate Bridge near San Francisco, only to be one of the very few to have survived. He now goes back to the very spot on the Bridge where he leaped to give thanks for surviving and to pray for those who made that leap and did not survive.

I feel open to say that I was at that point in June of 1976. I was a gonner myself, yet, somehow, I survived. And that experience, a "near death experience" as some would call it, taught me a lot about Life.

And so, to those of you in despair, seemingly without hope, who can't see any tomorrow through all the gloom and doom... I can promise you--REPEAT.. I can PROMISE YOU that a brighter, better, tomorrow is soon to come--just hold on, hold on, hold on. It will come.

And the World will be, AND IS, a MUCH better place with YOU IN IT.

PLEASE STAY IN THE WORLD.

YOU ARE LOVED!!! YOU HAVE HOPE!!! LIFE IS GOOD!!! HANG IN THERE!!!
*Thumbs UP and winks*
